Although there are plenty of ways to market your business on the internet, many of these ways are ineffective. To effectively market your business, especially on the internet, you need to learn which techniques are effective, and then implement them one at a time. Test and track your efforts to make sure you are getting results. Below are my best internet marketing techniques:
1. Search Engines. Search engines are a great way to get free traffic. The secret to getting the most from search engines is to choose the right keywords. You can use tools like Good Keywords or Web CEO to help you target the right keywords for your site.
2. Article Writing. Writing articles is my favorite technique for getting traffic to my website. Not only does it brand me as an expert, but it also allows me to build links back to my site. Creating quality content will help you raise your rankings in the search engines too.
3. Linking. If you hate writing, linking is an excellent way to build traffic to your site. You can search for directories on your topic, as well as use general directories. The easiest way to build a lot of links quickly is to buy software to help you submit your site quickly. Directory Dominator is a low cost solution to helping you build links.
4. Press Releases. A press release, or news release, is news about your business. Any time you have a significant event in your business, you should write and submit a press release. There are plenty of high ranking press release directories on the internet where you can submit your release.
5. Joint Ventures. If you sell your own products or services, joint ventures are a great way for you to quickly make more sales. To set up a successful joint venture, you should contact site owners whose sites compliment yours and make them an offer. (Make sure they have a list.) Be prepared to give them a copy of your product, as well as higher commissions and other benefits for doing a joint venture with you.
6. Affiliate Programs. If you sell your own products and services, you may want to set up your own affiliate program. If you promote it correctly, you can build a large sales force of affiliates selling your products and services. This will give you more time for product development, as well as cut your marketing costs to zero. It will also raise your profits.
7. Forums. Forums are another way to establish your expertise, as well as ask questions, find joint venture partners and affiliates, and meet other people in your industry. Marketing on forums is also a great way to build links back to your site. Although marketing on forums is effective, it can be very time consuming. If you are looking to really establish relationships with others, this is a great way to go.
8. Free Classifieds. Although free classifieds aren't as effective as they once were, they can still be an effective way to market your business if you use highly trafficked sites. I recommend US Free Ads. You'll find a link to this site in the menu.
9. Blogging. Blogs can help you build your reputation, communicate with your customers and potential customers, and build a search engine friendly website. It's also an easy way for you to create multiple streams of income for your business by introducing your readers to resources you may have found that will benefit them.

Finally, don't forget to build a list. List building is important for several reasons, but the most important is that it allows you to build a relationship with your site visitors. This increases your conversion rate. You're more likely to make the sale with repeated contact.
