A Sneaky Search Engine Optimization Trick, from Megastep

Today I want to give you a white-hat (read ethical good guys) search engine optimization technique to dramatically increase one-way links into your site. You most probably know that in order to rank well you need lots of in-bound links, and not just any kind of link. They have to be links from thematically related web pages/web sites. So let's say that you have a website about how to build a straw bale house, and you are looking to get links to it. You are going to need to hunt down websites that are themed around "straw bale building", "sustainablebuilding", " natural building", "green architecture"etc.

However one of the quickest ways to get one-way links (not reciprocal links) is by sending out press releases. I have been using PR web for this since 2004, primarily because they are a highly respected service and you can choose either a free or paid submission. I recently submitted a press release for a software tool I had put together. I paid $80 to PRweb.com (you can submit your release for free though, but I wanted to increase my exposure) and here are the following stats to date: Reads - 71 232 (This number shows how many times my press release was accessed on PRWeb). Estimated Pickups - 2 491 (The number of times my release was picked up by a media outlet).

When I look in Google I see that this press release returns 399 results. All with links pointing back to my website. Not bad for about one hours work. But remember, you can't just throw up a keyword stuffed press release in the vague hope that you will get distribution. Which is why I advise that you stay away from any so-called "press release submission software". Think about it. Webmasters want to provide value to their visitors, so only good, high quality content will get picked up. Spam will not!

And as with search engine submission, you don't need to submit to every single search engine out there, you just need to get picked up by a couple and the rest follow. The same is true for submitting press releases, and PRWeb.com is the Google of the press release distribution services. Also many folk are under the misunderstanding that the value of the link comes from being on the press release service, well that's not the case, the value of the link comes from the site that posts your press release. So the more thematically similar the publication site is to yours, the more value the link will carry. Yet another reason to submit high quality press releases.

Anyone who has recruited more than a couple of people into their organization have experienced the "revolving door" syndrome - where you recruit one person and it seems two others drop out. Obviously, this is frustrating and makes you wonder why it is so difficult to get your downline to stay active. It is even more frustrating to see people leaving faster than you can recruit them. Realize this happens in every business that fails to implement the one often forgotten element of retention. Too often we are so caught up in recruiting new downline that we forget about the downline we already have. We focus all of our energies on the toughest part of building the business which is recruiting.

Yet we forget to take action on the easiest part: Follow-up customer service. While follow-up customer service may seem difficult to get to sometimes, it is extremely important for future growth and improving your retention rates. The number of people in the downline who drop out should not be dropping out like they are. People drop out because they are often ignored or forgotten by their up line. Your goal should be to improve the retention within your own team and to make your customer service to your downline a priority. It is far more difficult to recruit new downline than it is to follow-up and follow-through with those you already have.

Below are seven things you MUST do to ensure your "revolving door" in your organization stays locked and to keep your downline active for the long term:

1. Implement a customer service policy. If you truly want to build a solid and profitable network marketing business, you need to implement the following policy: Provide service and follow-upto your downline.
2. Follow-up is following-through. Just because someone signed on the dotted line, does not mean the sale is complete. You must follow-up with your new downline within one week. Call them within one week of their purchase to ensure they are happy and are using the product/service. If they want to build the business, call to make certain they are tapping into the resources and getting off to a good start.
3. Staying in contact shows you care. In your prospecting and recruiting efforts, you planted seeds to start the relationship building process. Stay in touch with your downline. Doing so will show you care and value their business. Staying in touch will also provide you with an opportunity to get additional business and to strengthen the relationship.
4. Anticipate the needs of your downline. By staying in contact, you can anticipate or stay ahead of your downline needs. You will strengthen your relationship and will more fully understand their current needs. This ultimately leads to anticipation of future needs. Try to always think ahead. This will help you keep your downline happy, satisfied and even can help you to exceed expectations.
5. Keep records on your downline. As your business grows, it will become impossible to keep all downline information and individual needs in your head. You must create customer files with personal information on your downline. This information should include notes on your conversations and on their currentor potential needs.
6. Work closely and be supportive. No one is guaranteed success. However, you will be amazed at how high of a success rate you will have with those you personally sponsor when you work closely with them and are supportive of their efforts. Granted some people will never do what they need to do and you can't build the business for them. But, if you provide support and show you care, you improve the retention of your downline.
7. Create intimacy with your downline. What this means is to be genuine in your concern for your downline as a person. Show them you are not just in it to get their money. You must go beyond just an order taker and help people get what they want and need. The difference between you and your competition boils down to one thing - customer service. If you provide value through concern for them as a person and deliver quality customer service in every way possible, you will find your downline will be there for the long term. Keep in mind, the stability of your residual income will be indirect proportion to your personal follow-up and customer service. Make follow-up and customer service your PRIORITY! As you build your business in the future, make certain you follow-up and follow-through with customer service. Your wealth depends on it!

3. Cross promote your website with other sites. I try to find other web sites that have the same target audience, but are not in direct competition with my business. Doing cross promotions with other businesses increases your profits, sales, and beat your competition. You can find businesses to cross promote all over theInternet.
4. You can easily promote your website by using traffic generators. It could be a free e-zine, service, e-book, contest etc. Giving away traffic generators gives you the opportunity to get free advertising by including your ad on them. There are online directories that will also let you submit your freebie information. You can even let other people give away your traffic generators.
5. Posting messages to e-mail discussion lists is a great way to promote your website.
An e-mail discussion list is a group of people connected together via e-mail that can communicate with one another. When you post a message to a list include your signature file at the end. Include an attention getting sentence why they shouldvisit your web site.

A business spends its marketing dollars to reach a vast audience and they only do business with a fraction of this audience. In conventional marketing, this is taken for granted. But what if you could eliminate a lot of the expense of "prospecting" and only spend your time and money on people who are ready to buy? Conversely, what if you could recoup the investment you've made on past prospects whom you couldn't convert into customers - money you have written off as a "cost of advertising?" Furthermore, what if you could do all of this with very little effort? When you advertise and market you pay to get people you don't sell to. For instance, let's say you do a direct-mail, lead-generation campaign. The mailing costs you $1,000 per thousand. If you do well, you'll get 10% response. That's great. You've got 100 people as a result. Now, each one of those prospects has cost you $10 to bring in. If you're good, you'll convert 10%. But that means you didn't convert 90% of your prospects! So you've got $900 "wasted" on those prospects and that cost takes away from your profits.

No Company Can Get By Without Advertising Sometimes, because of expense or inexperience, a new company fails to advertise. No company, large or small, can get by without advertising. If you wish to survive and grow, you must advertise. If you plan to have a truly entrepreneurial, first-rate growth company, advertising will speed you toward that goal. The best means of appreciating the value of advertising is to go ahead with it. You will see immediately that advertising brings results. You need to spend at least five percent or more of your gross income on advertising. A mandatory requirement of your advertising is that it be truthful. Practice full disclosure of all the facts, good and bad, in your promotions. Julius Rosenwald made sure that the Sears catalogue faithfully described the merchandise it offered. He instructed, "It may take courage to say plainly that the embroidery on the sleeve of a woman's coat is of artificial silk, but it is better than to have even one of a hundred women find out for herself."

Direct response brings measurable results. And all at a fraction of the cost of "traditional" marketing methods. If I had to give you a good working definition of direct-response marketing, I'd say it directs your efforts to a qualified audience, using one or more media for the express purpose of soliciting a response by mail, telephone or a personal visit from your customers. It's your total marketing effort -- each part orchestrated in harmony with the whole. I honestly don't believe you'll ever find a safer, lower-risk, higher-profit method of increasing your business or profession than direct-response marketing. What's more, any business or profession can add at least one facet of direct-response marketing to its present operation. And it's worthwhile for many reasons:
1. It augments whatever you're already doing in your operation.
2. It's an affordable way to target specific segments of your customer base.
3. It's an indispensable tool for reaching people or businesses outside your general market area you wouldn't normally be able to access.
4. It's an alluring way to "upsell' your products or services.
5. It's a low-cost way to obtain new business that might otherwise be exorbitantly expensive.
6. It's a powerful way to leverage modest amounts of increased sales into large profits, because the cost to obtain sales is so low.
7. It's a productive way to constantly communicate with your audience, enabling you to cement professional relationships while making a profit in the process. It's also a great inventory and payroll balancing vehicle. Whenever your employees have time on their hands or you have too much product in inventory, you can use direct response - targeted at your active customers and prospects to keep the dynamics of products and personnel in balance. My wife sends out a postcard every month to her customers offering a slightly reduced price on salon services on the three slowest days of the week. Consequently she is booked up on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and her employees (who would be there anyway) are kept busy. Let's say you're stuck with too much inventory. Make a special, discreet private offer to old customers and prospects. You're going to lose money anyway, so why not use it as a loss leader to get people to buy from you. If your business enters a slack period, you still have payroll running and your employees may not have much work. Direct response allows you to launch an immediate campaign to stimulate business activity. You can announce a sale or make a special offer. You can usually get something going fast and thereby keep your staff busy. The unprofitable lulls in business activity can be nullified by an active, direct response program. Every business needs to employ these tactics aggressively to keep sales up. Adding direct response advertising allows you the flexibility and ability to constantly manage and balance your inventory, personnel and payroll.
